Full-field image of NGC 3603 using a single pointing of the Advanced Camera for Surveys onboard Hubble. This image spans 19 light-years across.
About the colours
This image is a composite of many separate exposures made by the ACS instrument on the Hubble Space Telescope using several different filters. Three filters were used to sample broad wavelength ranges. The color results from assigning different hues (colors) to each monochromatic image. In this case, the assigned colors are: Blue: F435W (B) Green: F550M (V) Red: F850LP (SDSS z)
About the data
The Hubble image was created from HST data from proposal 10602 : J. Maíz Apellániz (Astronomical Institution of Andalucía, Spain), N. Walborn and E. Nelan (STScI), N. Morrell (Carnegie Institution of Washington), and V. Niemela (National University of La Plata, Argentina).
