HST PHAT Wide Image of M31

About the colours

This image is a composite of separate exposures acquired by the WFC3 and ACS instruments on HST. Several filters were used to sample broad wavelength ranges. The color results from assigning different hues (colors) to each monochromatic (grayscale) image associated with an individual filter. In this case, the assigned colors are:Blue: F336W(U)Cyan: F475W (g)Yellow: F814W(I)Red: F160W (H) (H)

About the data

The Panchromatic Hubble Andromeda Treasury (PHAT) survey of M31 is an ongoing HST Treasury proposal. These inset images were created from Hubble data from proposal 12058 (PI: J. Dalcanton, University of Washington, Seattle).
